Equine Therapy

At The Roll Call Foundation, we believe in the silent, transformative power of the horse. Our equine-assisted therapy program is specifically designed to help those battling PTSD find their way back to a place of peace and purpose.

Chief

Chief Lead Therapy Horse

Chief is known for his calm, steady presence. In PTSD therapy, Chief acts as a mirror; his sensitivity to human emotion helps veterans identify when they are feeling tense or anxious, allowing them to practice grounding techniques in real-time.

Red New Therapy Horse

We would like to welcome Red into the team.

Mario & Baxter Retired

Our original team brings a gentle and curious spirit. These horses excels in building trust and connection, helping families and children with special needs feel safe while developing new emotional skills.

How Horses Assist with PTSD

Horses are prey animals, which makes them hyper-aware of their surroundings and the emotional states of those around them. This unique biological trait makes them the perfect partners for PTSD recovery.

Emotional Regulation

By interacting with Chief, participants learn to lower their heart rate and stay calm, as the horse will only relax when the human does.

Trust Building

PTSD often breaks a person's ability to trust. Horses offer non-judgmental companionship, creating a safe space to rebuild that connection.

Mindfulness

Working with a 1,000-pound animal requires total focus on the present moment, effectively breaking the cycle of intrusive thoughts and flashbacks.
